Materuni, home to the Chagga tribe, remains an authentic tribal village just 15 km from Moshi Town and serves as the last stop before entering Kilimanjaro National Park. Your adventure begins in Moshi, where an English-speaking guide will pick you up and drive you to Materuni Village. Upon arrival, registration at the village office marks the start of your journey. The short, scenic drive from Moshi up the lush slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro to Materuni, situated at approximately 1,800 meters above sea level, offers a glimpse into the region's rich agricultural heritage, ideal for producing some of Africa's best coffee. At a local coffee farm, you'll learn about the cultivation, harvesting, and processing of coffee, and even participate in roasting and preparing a fresh cup the traditional Chagga way. After enjoying this delightful coffee break, you’ll embark on a picturesque 45-minute hike through banana and coffee plantations, mini-valleys, ridges, and splashing rivulets towards the Materuni Falls. Throughout the hike, your guide will introduce you to local plants used for food and traditional medicine, enriching your understanding of the Chagga culture.
